When Dr Fournier took over the management of the neurosurgery team at the Hôpital du Valais, he had the vision of a specialised endoscopic centre that would provide high-quality care for its patients. With great commitment and hard work, he and his team succeeded in realising this vision at the Hôpital du Valais. The year 2018 marked the start of this exciting project, in partnership with Stöckli Medical.

Thanks to his experience at the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen, Dr Fournier knew the advantages of this surgical technique: Less invasiveness, resulting in less post-operative pain; lower risk of infection and usually a shorter hospital stay and time until everyday tasks or work can be resumed.

Today, a few years later, the team is celebrating a major milestone of 500 successfully performed endoscopic operations in the neurosurgery department. On behalf of Stöckli Medical AG, we would like to offer our warmest congratulations and recognise this special achievement.

Since then, the endoscopic centre at Valais Hospital has made considerable progress under the leadership of Dr Fournier and his team. Performing the 500th endoscopic operation underlines not only the quality of medical care provided here, but also the continuous development and innovation in endoscopic surgery.

A key to success is the ongoing training of the team at Valais Hospital. Dr Fournier and his team have not only made sure to stay technologically up to date but have also continuously expanded their skills and knowledge. This has helped the team to perform more complex endoscopic procedures safely and efficiently, making it a beacon project for minimally invasive patient treatment throughout Switzerland.

Another notable advance is the recent gift from Stöckli Medical for the neurosurgery department. This week, the Valais Hospital was equipped with a new giant 4k screen, which Jean-Yves Fournier’s team has already tested and approved for full-endoscopic brain and spinal procedures. This will further improve efficiency and safety for patients.

Dr Alexandre Simonin commented on LinkedIn: “It’s hard to imagine not being able to see the drill in full endoscopy.”

This milestone at Valais Hospital is not only a reason to celebrate, but also reminds us of the importance of close co-operation between the various stakeholders and the ambition to constantly look for ways to improve. We are proud that Stöckli Medical AG plays an important role in this success at Valais Hospital and look forward to many more successful years of the endoscopy centre under the leadership of Dr Fournier.
